As part of the anniversary exhibition in November 2023, a special project was launched: the poet Rainer René Mueller and the Matthias Maaß Collection are jointly presenting a unique volume of poetry. This collaboration is a tribute to the long-standing friendship between Matthias Maaß and Rainer René Mueller, which lasted until Maaß’s early death in May 2019.
An artist friendship spanning decades
The relationship between Matthias Maaß and Rainer René Mueller began in the early 1980s. Mueller curated one of Maaß’s first exhibitions in Schwäbisch Hall and accompanied the artist throughout his life. The two artists shared a deep friendship that was extremely fruitful not only privately but also artistically.
“Les Très Belles Heures de MM & RRM”:
A volume of poetry like a book of hours
In memory of this long-standing relationship, the volume of poetry “Les Très Belles Heures de MM & RRM” was created, designed in the style of a book of hours. This volume contains 12 poems, each dedicated to one of Matthias Maaß’s works. The poems by Rainer René Mueller offer a poetic reflection on the emotional depth and expressiveness of Maaß’s works of art.
Book presentation and exhibition at Cajeth House, February 2025
The official presentation of the volume of poetry is planned for February 2025 at the Cajeth House in Heidelberg. This book presentation will be part of an extensive exhibition of Matthias Maaß’s works, which will take place from February 8 to June 28, 2025. Visitors can experience both Maaß’s works and the accompanying poems by Mueller and gain a deep insight into the work and friendship of the two artists.
