An intensive examination of the works of Matthias Maaß gives the viewer an insight into his emotionally troubled inner life and the tireless drive to express his pressing feelings.
The long-term engagement with the works of Matthias Maaß and a growing friendship between the artist and the entrepreneur Wilhelm Kampik formed the basis for the creation of a collection of paintings, drawings and texts from the artist’s various creative phases. In this context, the constructive, cooperative and close collaboration of the Matthias Maaß Collection with the GIM – Society for Innovative Market Research, Stephan Teuber, the Galerie p13 under the direction of Dr. Kristina Hoge, Rainer René Mueller, the Museum Haus Cajeth, the Prinzhorn Collection Heidelberg with the special commitment of PD Dr. phil. Thomas Röske, formed the basis for the successful activities to date and are certainly also a good foundation for further future projects.
Matthias Maaß died on May 18, 2019 and his death is a great loss for the Heidelberg art scene.
The Matthias Maaß Collection aims to make the artistic work of Matthias Maaß accessible to a wider public and to enable encounters with his art and inner world.
